Independent Medical Evaluations

The goal of all Brain and Behavior, PLLC consults is to ensure each person is offered an appropriate assessment of his/her unique clinical case. But a key aspect of care at Brain and Behavior is the role of psychotherapy in the treatment of all established patients.

Some people interested in being seen at Brain and Behavior may be seeking both treatment and independent medical evaluations (IMEs)*. As IMEs require objective professional evaluation, attempting to both treat and evaluate the same person typically creates an irreconcilable role conflict for a clinician. In addition, Brain and Behavior psychiatrists do not have fellowship training in Forensic Psychiatry.

It is for these reasons, Brain and Behavior psychiatrists do NOT assume dual roles for patients and are unable to complete objective independent medical evaluations (IMEs).

*Some examples of IMEs include but are not limited to the following:

1) Work related functional evaluations

2) Court mandated or legal evaluations

3) Short/Long term disability evaluations

4) Fitness for duty evaluations

5) Personal injury or worker's compensation evaluations

6) Surgical or procedure evaluations

7) Emotional support animal or therapy animal evaluations

Patients seeking an Independent Medical Evaluations (IMEs), such as those listed above, are advised to seek an alternative objective psychiatrist. Many times expertise and training in forensic psychiatry is recommended for IMEs.

Potential patients seeking completion of paperwork/forms for short term medical leave (ex. FMLA), please note this will only potentially be completed for patients already in active treatment at Brain and Behavior, PLLC for at least SIX (6) MONTHS OR SEEN A MINIMUM OF TWELVE (12) TIMES. This is due to Brain and Behavior, PLLC psychiatrists requiring familiarity with the patient and his/her case. Any paperwork/form is completed at the discretion of the doctor and its completion will be charged at an hourly rate.
